07/21/06 - Shasta

Well I am back from the Mt. Shasta 2006 Nissan/Datsun meet.

It was a very fun meet, got to meet a whole lot of people from forums and web sites i've heard of. Saw some very cool cars and was a little disappointed to not see certain cars.

Over all my car managed to pick up 3rd Place Best L-Series and 1st Place Best Interior! There was a lot of really nice cars this year!

A few cooling issues sort of plagued this trip. I will hopefully be installing a more accurate temp gauge in my car so that I can be 100% sure of what is going on since the factory temp gauge can some times bounce around. Possibly could upgrade to a 3-Core radiator. Also noticed the other day that the right rear brake cyl is leaking and will need to be replaced asap since it is basically useless now for braking...

I have done well this year at the car shows. I have a few things planned for next year's meets. We will see how the cash flow goes..

I will have some new pictures up in the project pictures section in the next couple days.

06/28/06 - A few minor updates

Updates have been sort of hard to come by it seems.

Not much has really been done to the car. I don't really have the funds at the moment. I had the fender completely redone on the car. It is pretty much brand new. I had a replacement fender acid dipped and then painted by a local paint shop (RC Auto Body). It cost a bit more than expected but over all it was worth it. It looks like it has been there since day one. Blended perfectly.

I attended the 2006 Canby Datsun/Nissan show this year and managed to take 2nd place in the L-Series category! I have a picture of the award in the picture gallery. It looks great and definitely will show the value of the vehicle. I managed to place 2nd out of the 7-8 cars in the category. Quite an accomplishment for me.

I didn't manage to make it down for the medford cruise. I couldn't sort out my insurance in time to have the proper coverage. I will be attending the 2006 Mt. Shasta Datsun/Nissan show in Mt. Shasta, CA! I will have my web site sticker on the back of my rear view mirror, so if you see it feel free to flag me down and say hi.

I posted some new pictures in the gallery. Some cool shots in a spot I found last week. Hopefully I can shoot some more to fully enjoy and remember this car in case anything should happen one day.

Hopefully if I can save up some money some suspension work will get done this fall during the winter project season.

06/03/06 - Lots of Stuff

Sorry, went kind of MIA on the site. Been kind of busy with school and work.

So since my last update I have pretty much completed the car. The stereo work has been done. Came out very nice, all work was done by Custom Audio in Eugene, OR. I have also carpeted the car. I installed a pair of 350Z front vents as well. Oh, I also had to replace the master Cyl because of an ongoing leak. On a smaller note I added a new fuel filter and Cig lighter.

So I have some new pictures in the pictures section. I also will be attending the All Datsun meet in Canby, Oregon on the 10th of this month. You can find more information on the Datsuns Northwest Club homepage.

I will also be attending the Mt. Shasta Nissan/Datsun meet in Mt. Shasta City, CA in july. As well as the Medford Cruise in Medford, OR on June 17th.

Project wise all I really have left I want to do at the moment is upgrade my low beams but that really isn't a priority at the moment.

Future Modifications include:

280ZX Brakes (front and rear)

Upgraded front and rear suspension

04/20/06 - Sound deading done, stereo next.

I got the sound deadining material on the floors. Now that I have that done I can move on to other parts of the project. Before I go to carpet I want to do the stereo wiring. So that is all done before any carpet work starts. Hopefully I can get it done nicely and not have anything sticking out. One major difficulty with the stereo I can see are my front speakers. They might be sticking out more than what I want. I might have to toss out some coin to get them right.

That's all for the moment.

Checkout the project pictures section for a few new of the sound deading material pictures.

04/18/06 - New Pictures and Zero Rust

I finally got to applying zero rust to the floors. It went well, I just hope I covered all the spots that needed covering. I would look at it after two coats and still see spots I missed. It looks like where I missed are not big rust areas so it should be alright.

I got my back seats back from the upholstery shop. They look great and are likely the most expensive piece in the car so far! An estimated $600 spent on it! (06 Subaru materials + Labor) The expensive part was getting that 2006 Subaru material, cost me $150!

Over all everything is looking great. The car runs but because me applying zero rust I can't drive it. Soon as it is completely dry I will be applying some sound deadining material to keep it quiet. I have driven long distances in this car and it can be extremely loud, plus I with out it I can barely hear my music. After the sound deadining material is applied, I can hopefully get some audio work done and then finally the carpet. At that point I believe the car will be done. We will see what will come up in the next few weeks. Might spare a little cash and buy some 350z vents to give my interior a little more modern look.

That's all for now. Checkout the project pictures section for a good amount of new pictures!

04/11/06 - Wiring and One seat mounted

I had my car towed this week to the garage of DAMB and had some desperately need work done. The things that got done was some extremely clean wiring and fixing the mistakes of previous owners. Got a electronic distributor all hooked with with minor issues that are now solved. Finally got the manifold - Y pipe - and exhaust all connected.

The other major milestone crossed is one of the new seats has been mounted and it looks (and feels) great! I just sent my backseat sent off to an upholstery shop today to have it redone to look like my fronts.

While I was at the DAMB garage I replaced some parts that really needed it. Such as the spark plugs, coil, rotor and dist cap.

As for what is left to finish: I will be applying zero rust to the floors this week. The back seat will be back this friday. Hopefully in the up coming weeks I will put down some sound proofing and get the other seat mounted. From there I have to apply some carpet and then all that is left is the stereo stuff. If I have some cash to spare I will attempt to put another tranny in there. I have about half a month left to my original deadline but I have a bit of room since there is actually a full month before any real shows. Gave my self some time to fine tune.

I will have some pictures of the current progress once the car gets home. At the moment it is running perfectly. It sounds and runs great. So far this project has been worth every penny. I don't expect that to change when it is finished.

04/02/06 - Everything looks on Schedule...

I'm slowly getting everything together. The car should be running soon and possibly getting a lot of work done in the up coming weeks. Once the seats have been mounted I can get to work on coating the floor with zero rust. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have carpet installed.

This week I will be going to the upholstery shop and hopefully they can get started on the back seat. I figure I should look in to it now, since I have no idea how long it will take them to finish.

I bought some Hella supertone horns for my car since I didn't have any good horns to put back in so why not upgrade! My dad hooked me up with a nice deal on them. I also managed to get some water in the radiator to check for any leaks before I add the coolant. I had one small leak but it was easily fixed with a little tightening. I put a brand new optima battery in the car since the old battery was having some odd issues. I put my old seat back in on the driver's side since I need to drive it so it can have the new seats put in it.

Check out the about section for my list of Events I plan to attend this year!

Also check out the project pictures section for new pictures as well as pictures BEFORE the project!

03/24/06 - Finally

Well I finally got the zinc coated stuff back this week and have most of the car put back together. I should have it up and running by next week. Then it is off to have some wiring done, seats will get mounted, new distributor will be installed, as well as my rear sway bar.

Also check the project pictures section for new pictures of some of the zinc coated parts installed. A few more updates should be coming in the next couple days.

03/05/06 - Manifolds, Exhausts, and more..

I switched my headers back to a stock manifold. It will likely run better with those than my cheap o' headers. Also got the manifold coated inside and out with thermodyne. Looks brand new. I didn't have a Y pipe to connect the manifold to the exhaust. I found one but it turns out it's a little smaller than I would have liked.

While I was in the wrecking yard picking up a Y pipe I happened to find a 79 620 with an electronic distributor. Should help a little as well. Plus one less thing in the engine bay.

I am still waiting on the zinc coated items. That is one of the bigger things currently holding me up. I decided while the height adjustment bracket was out getting coated, I might as well pull some things out and clean it. Figured i'd replace the belt while I was in there as well.

Hopefully I can get this project rolling. Don't have a whole lot of time left.

02/10/06 - Progress

I have finally got my heater back in the car. That is one of the worst things you can ever install in a 510 (510 floors were not made for comfort).

I have discovered that I am going to have to replace my exhaust and exhaust manifold due to the previous owners being idiots. The exhaust and exhaust manifold has basically become one solid piece. So to be replaced with something more work friendly it needs to be cut and removed. Unfortunately this costs money, and money I do not have.

I am currently in the process of having items yellow zinc coated to give some pieces that " new" factory look. Hopefully those come back soon since they are one of the few things keeping me from making a big leap in progress.

Once those pieces return I can put the car completely back together and move on to getting my headlights working as well as having my WRX seats mounted, putting zero rust on the floor as well as starting on carpet. Some where in between stereo needs to be done. Not much time left to finish a good amount of stuff.
